In my spare time, I enjoy travelling, skating, and reading! I am looking forward to being a part of the Brainwaves executive team as VP Scheduling.

Basal Ganglia, which is mostly in charge of our habits and muscle memory. For example, if you train in figure skating for years, the basal ganglia will take over!

During my free time I love to go to the gym or go for a swim. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, especially going shopping or getting dinner with them. During school, you can usually find me at the library studying 😭 or working.

Favourite fact about the brain:

Hypothalamus: It plays an essential role in our endocrine system, and making sure our body stays at homeostasis. It does so much work that most people don’t realize!

I have a HUGE sense of wonder and love learning new things every day! That is why I have been in education for my whole life; as a student, teacher, assistant principal, principal and now education coordinator. I love being in nature, hiking in the mountains or swimming in the ocean, as long as I can be active. My claim to fame is being inducted into the AB Figure Skating Hall of Fame this year along with my Precision Skating teammates from my youth as the most accomplished team in the history of AB. My favourite region of the brain is the occipital lobe due to its role in visual processing which is very helpful to me as an artist.

Fifunmi Eso

Hi everyone, my name is Fifunmi and I enjoy drinking herbal teas and going on long walks. I am interested in understanding mechanisms behind physiological systems, particularly in a laboratory setting. When I am not working or studying, I like to dance like no one is watching.

Favourite fact about the brain:

Basal Ganglia, because it is important in forming habits and several automatic responses we don't even think about.

Parham Hassanzadeh

Volunteer Scheduling

I’m a master’s student who loves staying active and being around sports. Soccer and hockey are my favorites, but I’ll happily play or watch just about anything. I enjoy the mix of competition and fun that comes with sports, whether it’s a casual game with friends or keeping up with matches. Outside of that, I’m really into cars. I like learning about different models, following new releases, and just talking about anything automotive. When I’m not studying or working on school projects, you’ll usually find me spending time with family or friends.

Favourite fact about the brain:

My favorite brain region is the occipital lobe because of the central role it plays in vision. I’ve always been fascinated by how much of our perception of the world depends on sight, and the occipital lobe is where all that visual information gets processed and made meaningful.

Daniel Lai

A fun fact about me is that I had taken more psychology courses than physiology courses. When free, I usually going hiking and fishing with my family. During the summer, I've enjoyed to play badminton, karting racing and escape rooms with my friends!

I enjoy making learning fun for the kids in classroom and am eager to pass on my experience as former VP Volunteer and Recruitment to new volunteers.
